School Boards face many challenges and the success
of a board is often determined by its ability to govern itself effectively, maintain its strategic focus and interact
with stakeholders.
Our work with school boards has three parts.
- Feedback from stakeholders, both internal to the
school system and external from the community at large.
- Development of a governing competency model specific
to the school board and integration of the model into the operations of the board and the administration.
- Continuous improvement interactions to acknowledge
change in board members, administrators and environments.
We obtain feedback from internal stakeholders within
the school system and external stakeholders within the community. It is an effective and targeted innovation to the 360
feedback model used with leaders.
Development of a governing competency model refines the time
tested and relevant model from the National Association of School Boards to focus on each district's unique strategic
initiatives and the processes needed to accomplish them. The competency model draws lines to delineate the responsibilities
of the board and the administration and sets both objectives and benchmarks for each group, acting in concert but independently.
Continuous improvement is accomplished through monthly board self
monitoring and feedback combined with semi annual workshops to identify achievements both in process and achievement.
